Title: UML 2 for Dummies
Publisher: For Dummies
Authors: Michael Jesse Chonoles, James A. Schardt
Rating: 2/5

Just for beginners

This book is just an introduction to UML. All the discussions that could lift this book to a more interesting level are left out. If you are only looking for definitions the book will do. If you want more in depth introductions to best practices, beyond what you can learn in a few hours of reading, this is not the right book for you. My advise - Buy the UML Bible as your first UML book, and spare yourself for hours of research trying to find the best way to get started with UML or just improving your UML skills.

Title: Don't Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability
Publisher: New Riders Press
Authors: Steve Krug
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
This book is the Tops!

I bought this book because I thought it would help me tame my own sci-fi hobby site...; all I can say is wow, wow, wow.
Steve Krug tells you everything you need to know about effective interface design, from the most valuable point of view of all ... that of the user.
I'm really fired up about applying all SK's killer interface ideas to my own site. The only problem is, he's made me realize how badly laid out my site is at the moment. My re-design is going to take flipping years.
Ho hum. But anyway, this book is a classic. I have already passed it around my day-job firm's web team and studio, and they all agree that this is the best tome they have read on the subject to date.
If you only buy one book on web site usability, make it this cracker. Great advice, fab typesetting and you should be able to read it three daily train commutes (I did).

Title: As the Future Catches You: How Genomics & Other Forces Are Changing Your Life, Work, Health & Wealth
Publisher: Crown Business
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
The New Convergence

Juan Enriquez is the first author to spot and describe for us the new convergence of the 21st century. "As The Future Catches You" gives lucid overviews of the concurrent revolutions in bioinformatics, genomics, nanotechnology, and proteomics. It combines this with a call to arms for the ambitious worker and the nation state of how to survive and thrive in the world fo the future.
If you're still suffering from "revolution fatigue" that you developed during the 1990s, you haven't seen anything yet, and Enriquez's book is the best roadmap so far.
