A great reference for the CPU and ASM

I've been programming in high-level languages for a number of years and this book took the little bits of knowledge I had of hardware and other obscurities and put them all together. Not only is it a great reference for ASM, but a gives an unparallelled understanding of the CPU. The only problem I had as a novice Assembly programmer was the few code mistakes and Irvine assumed that the reader knew a little too much in the first couple of chapters.

Best study guide for the Programmer exam

This book is very well written and covers all topics in detail for SCJP 310-035. The presentation is just wonderful and it keeps you interested. After every chapter, there is a two-minute drill which is a summary of the chapter and would definitely be useful the day before the exam. Also, for passing the exam, try taking as many mock exams as possible. They all really help.

Not many pages but packs a punch

I've found this book to be the best book for starting to use XML. Whereas some other books will be 500 or more pages long and cost twice as much, no page is wasted by Elizabeth Castro. With Elizabeth's great writing style and examples you can easily find yourself learning stuff in half the number of pages of other books.
Highly recommended. Clear, concise, well put together and a bargain price as well!
