Title: Unified Modeling Language Reference Manual, The (2nd Edition) (Addison-Wesley Object Technology Series)

Tip Top for the dedicated UML modeler

I do a lot of UML modelling, and I keep this book by my desk at all times. It has in-depth information, is well-written, and is well-organized.
The Reference Manual and the Users Guide are generally sold as a pair. Quite frankly, if you have the Reference Manual, then you don't need the Users Guide.
If you are just learning UML and are already familiar with any formal design methodologies, then you can do just fine with the Reference Manual alone. However, if you are new to graphical modeling in general, you may want to buy "UML for Dummies" to serve as a useful introduction.

Title: XML for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide
Publisher: Peachpit Press
Authors: Elizabeth Castro
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Yeah! Elizabeth's writing about XML!

Elizabeth Castro has to be THE best technical writer at breaking processes into discrete chunks. I use her other books in my community college teaching -- and I used this one with a three-day class in XML that I taught for a corporate client in December. Practical; easy-to-follow; exercises build one on another to create a whole. Combination reference and how-to book.

Title: PMP: Project Management Professional Study Guide, 2nd Edition
Publisher: Sybex Inc
Authors: Kim Heldman, PMP, Kim Heldman, Sybex

The PMP Exam and Beyond

This is a practical, easy to read PMP Exam study guide. Unlike other exam preparation books that are organized by Knowledge Area, Kim follows the project process flow from initiation to closing using a case study approach. The outline directly matches the process / objectives organization of the exam. The PMBOK(R) is organized by Knowledge Area, so supplementing your review of PMBOK(R) with an alternative approach that is easier to relate to real life project management is a good strategy. This is one prep book that I continue to use long after successfully writing the exam. I used this book and companion CD as the key source book for a PMP Exam preparation course I gave. My students agreed with my assessment of its value.
