Title: Mastering Visual C# .NET
Publisher: Sybex Inc
Authors: Jason Price, Mike Gunderloy
Rating: 4/5
Customer opinion - 4 stars out of 5
Great Book

Overall, I'd say this a great book for learning C#. Prior to reading the book I had knowledge of C++ fundamentals. For the most part, I didn't have any issues digesting most of the material in the book. Although, I will say that I didn't catch on to Mike Gunderloy's writing style quiete easily. I could tell something was different in the quality of the writing later on in the book and then realized (from the examples) it was Mike's writing. Maybe cause his topics were a bit more advanced. Knowing more now, I look back at it all and say its a good book to learn from scratch and a useful reference later on.

Title: Beginning Perl for Bioinformatics
Publisher: O'Reilly
Authors: James Tisdall
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Great introduction

This is the first book that I read about Perl and also the first one that I read about Bioinformatics. I think it has an enough level of details so that readers who have little or no Bioinformatics background can easily understand the basics, and readers who wants to focus more on Perl usage in Bioinformatics can also get quick and useful examples such as interpreting BLAST output, and regular expressions.

Use this book for a bon-fire!

I am currently entering my 2nd semester using this book! the book itself is excellant and well written, especially for the beginner! But take care of which version you get! The only Dif. is the number on the inside cover, and the color of the printer spacing charts in the exercises, while the good oone has all black charts. The book with 123456KP10987 under the ISBN number on the inside page FALLS APART! (Happened to EVERY classmate who used it!), the BAD version also has blue green colored charts in the chapter exercises. BUT ... IT IS A GREAT BOOK TO LEARN FROM!!

Great for the newbie

Excellent content, concepts and depth of knowledge. The author explains Oracle as it pertains to AIX, HP and Solaris. There are also many ready to run scripts to help monitor and tune a system. It even shows how to extend STATSPACK.
