Title: Financial Instrument Pricing Using C++ (The Wiley Finance Series)
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
Authors: Daniel J. Duffy
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
The best book in c++ instrument pricing, period.

Let me just say that I have a few financial modelling books, from Dr. Brooks to Mr. Joshi, and this is the best book by far. It clearly explain how to price a particular instruments using this poweful language. The book uses Standard Template Language (STL), by doing so your code are more readable and much faster. If I only had this book a few years back. Now I must say this book is for C++ programmers and Quants you really need to know C++ from beginning to end, templates, pointers, references, classes or that stuff you need it. This is the only book that comes with working code, it doesn't matter what type of compiler you have the code in the CD will work. Mr. Duffy explains how to model one factor and two factor Black-Scholes equations using finite differences, options(vanilla, exotic),interest rate and much more. The CD even comes with an Excel driver to transfer your data to Excel. Quant superstar Justin London is coming with his new book in a few months, and that book might over take this one, but as of right now this is the best C++ financial pricing book around. You can't go wrong with this one.

Title: Professional Photoshop: The Classic Guide to Color Correction

Authors: Dan Margulis

WOW!!!!!

outstanding!!!!! dan once again proves he is the man!!!! after reading professional photoshop 6,i couldn't wait to get ths one!!!! as an old school stripper who morphed into a scanner opperator, honed my craft for many years on a hell 399 drum scanner and have run a scitex eversmart pro for the last 5 years,i learned something VITAL every few pages at least!!!!. dan's tireless work and reasearch has paid off 10 fold.his by the numbers approach is dead on. the chapter on curves is priceless for bringing out detail and vastly improving the look of any image, reguardless of the destination.the plate blending he demonstrates is mind bending, who the heck thought you could blend the green channel into the rgb composite to improve fleshtones??? if anyone knew you could do that sure as heck kept to themselves. the chapters "all color spaces are one" and "every file has ten channels" put to rest the absurb argument that you will kill an image switching color spaces ,he proves all color spaces are one. i dont even know where to start with the sharpening,i thought using a 500% amount on usm in photoshop could never, ever has a use, some photoshop "pro's" have a fit if anything over 200% is used they are knaves to say it kindly as far as the sharpining issue. i now know real men use 500 when ever possible, and dont even bat an eye doing so.he also puts to bed that silly 8bit vs. 16 bit in offset printing. it goes on and on with info that will improve your images if you are willing to learn. dan's writing style to me is dead on,it is the only way it can be taught raw and to the point . bring on that sharpinig book,or the lab color book dan, i will be awating to find out how much i dont know. thanx for all you do to improve our industry it is an honor to read and learn from a true master, there arent many left. jim donovan

Title: Designing Web Usability : The Practice of Simplicity
Publisher: New Riders Press
Authors: Jakob Nielsen
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
The book that will piss off most web designers

If you are a web designer, this book will either force you to re-evaluate your design architecture, or it will end up in your fireplace.
As the number of web pages publised increases at an alarming rate, we as web designers, and instructors of future designers, need to take note of Jakob's message.
Just because I can program a page to do virtually whatever I want, doesn't mean it should be done. Also, just because most web pages make the same mistakes, itg doesn't mean you should follow suit.
This book is meant for the experienced web designer. If you have never designed a page before and are just begining, first learn your code and practice. Once you have made a few designs come back and read this book.
