Title: .NET Framework Solutions: In Search of the Lost Win32 API
Publisher: Sybex Inc

Very useful book

I am in the process of writing code to communicate with a microcontroler chip via USB. This requires calling the Win32 DeviceIoControl function to pass the requests to the device driver. Each USB funtion requires different data structures to be passed and returned using DeviceIoControl. These data structures use many of the wierd data types that Microsoft has defined in the Win32 API, which makes it dificult to write code in C# using Platform Invoke.
This book dosn't cover DeviceIoControl, or USB, but it has all the techniques I need to solve this problem, and has saved many hours of my time. I was starting to think that I would have to write my USB code in C++ with a managed C++ wrapper, but I am now making progress writing it completly in C#.
This book also discusses how to use managed C++ to wrap API calls, when you need to do something which can't be done directly with Platform Invoke.
There are 4 chapters on using DirectX from .NET, which I havn't read yet.
A great book for C# & VB.NET programmers who need to use the Win32 API, or other DLLs. You need to know C#, VB.NET, or another .NET language before reading this book. It also helps if you have had some experience with the Win32 API using C++ or VB6.

Title: Web Database Applications with PHP & MySQL, 2nd Edition
Publisher: O'Reilly
Authors: Hugh E. Williams
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Very useful and practical guide

Web Database Applications by H.E. Williams and D. Lane is a truly wonderful book if you are looking to learn how to get an online database application up and running fast. The book eases you into PHP with a decent length chapter on the basic syntax of the language, followed by an introduction of MySQL.After that, each chapter will teach you new techniques which are instantly applicable to a real-world online database system. Among others this book will teach you how to: write scripts that interact with MySQL, deal with security issues, handle sessions, handle shopping carts and lots lots more. The book was written before the introduction of PHP 4.2, so certain 4.2 (and up) specific issues are not covered. However, most of the examples in the book have been re-written for use with 4.2 and can be downloaded freely. On top of this the authors supply a level of support that is all but unheard of. Every question that I asked was answered within 1 day if not within the same day.All in all this book is at the top of it's league, I can highly recommend it!

Great learning tool

This book is wonderful if you don't know much about java. It is well written and easy to follow. There are a few times where I got confused on a couple subjects but I usually figured it out by checking SUN's website and re-reading the material. I recommend this book to any aspiring J programmer.

Title: Security+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide

Great Book!

I love this book the author does a great a job discussing all the topics beyond the scope of the test. However, the book does not cover good bit of the tough questions on the test. I do not blame the author as the test goes out of it's way to obscure the questions. I have 10yrs of IT experience, my MCSE, CCNA, CNA, A+ certs and have read [4] books on computer security. The Security+ exam has questions that do not exist in any of the books I have read.
